Ladderman definition and meaning

Ladderman is a casino term for the person who oversees a game of baccarat in brick-and-mortar casinos.

In many casino games, a single dealer is enough to tend to the whole table. However, in a game of baccarat, there are two dealers, a caller, and a ladderman. While the dealer and the caller are directly involved in the game and interact with the players, the ladderman sits on a special high chair above the table and watches over one, or sometimes even multiple, baccarat tables. Since they are sitting high above the table, the players have coined the term ladderman.

It is the ladderman’s job to ensure that everything goes smoothly and that everyone involved in the game at the table they’re overseeing adheres to the rules. While they make sure that the players aren’t cheating, laddermen are also responsible for correcting the caller if they make a wrong call, as well as the dealers if they make a mistake.
